- The Sixers won in charlotte last night, but the real story was newly-acquired guard Jimmy buter, who made a ley block near the end of the game and shot a game-winning buzzer-beating three-pointer. Butler has already made a difference. Covington and Saric, two players traded for Butler, were nice role guys but Butler is a star. He can effect a game both offensively and defensively. The Sixers should be fun to watch this season and beyond.
- The Flyers almost completed one of the greatest comebacks in NHL history. Down by 4 goals in the final 3rd period, the Orange and black scored 4 goals in less than 6 minutes, sending the game into overtime. Sadly, Tampa Bay scored in OT, picking up the victory. The Flyers earn a hard-fought point, but a win may have turned their season around. Still, it was an exciting, tense game, and the Flyers did go toe-to-toe with one of the best hocley clubs in the league.
- It's game day and the Eagles ar ein New Orleans to take on the hot 8-1 Saints. The Birds are 7 1/2 point underdogs and are racked with injuries. They are on the road, at one of the toughest places to play in the NFL, their depleted secondary ready to be carved-up by Drew Brees, one of the greatest QBs of all-time.
And even though I pick the Saints to win, 33-24, I wouldn't be shocked to see an upset. Philly has a lot of pride. They are still Super bowl champs. They know a victory can get them back into the NFC playoff race. Causing turnovers and controling the ball will be key to an Eagles victory.
- I was at an event in Downingtown with ex- Phillies relief pitcher Brad Lidge, and former WIP Sports Radio host Anthony Gargano. Lidge flew in from his home in Denver to give a little talk and answer questions. Gargano boldly announced that "the Harper thing will happen" meaning that free agent outfielder Bryce Harper will eventually sign with the Phillies.
- Reigning NCAA champion Villanova lost their second game of the young college basketball season to...Furman. Furman? Looks like the Wildcats aren't anywhere near what they were. Their Big Five streak may be in dire jeopardy this season. My St. Joe Hawks, now 3-1 in the season, may bring back the Holy War drama to the rivalry. Charlie Brown looks like an all-City player, and Taylor Funk appears to be a star in the making as well. They play on December 8th.
