PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- SIXERS, NFL FOOTBALL, EAGLES, BASEBALL HOT STOVE

- The Sixers are the only undefeated team at home this season in the NBA, going 9-0 with a victory over the Phoenix Suns Monday night. Joel Embiid had another huge game, scoring 33 points and gathering 18 rebounds. He continues to play like an MVP.

For the first time this season the 76ers have won 3 in a row. New guard Jimmy Butler is quickly becoming a part of the squad, both on offense and defense. Saric and Covenington, the players traded to the Timberwolves for Butler, were nice role players. But they aren't in Butler's class. The Sixers got a star for a pair of good players.

- Watching the Rams 54-51 win over the Chiefs, I'm reminded how far the Eagles are from these two elite teams. If the birds somehow win the NFC East and get into the playoffs, do you really think they would go far? In the long run, better to go 8-8 or less, get an easier schedule next year, plus get higher draft picks in which to rebuild this team.

I can easily see a LA-KC rematch in Super Bowl VIII. New Orleans, New England and Pitssburgh  will have a say in who plays in February. The playoffs promise to be exciting and high-scoring, with or without the Eagles.

-  The Yankees broke the ice yesterday by obtaining pitcher James Paxton from Seattle for a pair of prospects. Free agents are holding tight until the upcoming Winter Meetings.Who will blink first, Machado or Harper? Where will Patrick Corbin land? Whatever happens, the Phillies should be in the middle of the action.

- Nice meeting former Phillies scout Hank King last night at my Hot Stove discussion group. Interesting stories from a real baseball guy. They don't make them like Hank anymore. It's good to know he hates analytics as well.
