This day in Sports History....
The Comeback Kid-
"I guess there have been a couple of times when my wife and I would look at each other and say 'Did that really happen?' We just kinda shake our heads in awe of the game. I wouldn't call it a choke. I'd like to give our team credit. We had to shut them down on every count. I don't look at it as a choke. I look at it as a miracle from God."
- Frank Reish (Reich is now Offense Coordinator for the Eagles).
Twenty-five years ago today, backup quarterback Frank Reish led the Buffalo Bills to a 41-38 overtime victory over Warren Moon and the Houston Oilers in an AFC wild-card playoff game that will forever be known to Buffalo fans as "The Comeback."
This was actually the second time that Reich had staged a miraculous comeback. He was also the quarterback for Maryland in 1984, when he engineered the greatest comeback in NCAA Division I-A history at the time. With Maryland behind the defending national champion Miami Hurricanes 31-0, Reich replaced starting quarterback Stan Gelbaugh. Reich rallied the Terps and completed 12 of 15 passes for three touchdowns and rushed for another touchdown that led Maryland to the 42-40 upset victory.
