Willie O'Ree
Sixty years ago today, Willie O'Ree of the NHL's Boston Bruins made his debut against the Montreal Canadians, becoming the first black player in NHL history. O'Ree, who was 95 percent blind in his right eye, played in only two games in 1958, and came back in 1961 to play 43 games. He scored four goals and added ten assists in his NHL career.
