PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- EAGLES, SIXERS

* The Eagles practiced with pads yesterday and report an uptick in practice intensity. The players actually requested to wear pads and hit. There were rumors that practices were lacking the last few weeks.I'm glad the players have taken not, understanding now is the time to get serious.

Brian Dawkins and Terrell Owens have made it to the final 15 for the Football Hall of Fame voting. The actual inductees will be announced on February 3, the night before the Super Bowl. Both deserve to get in. As an Eagle fan, I hope Dawk gets in more. But T.O. was a big [part of the 2004 Super Bowl team. As a receiver, T.O. probably has a better shot at getting in.

The one Eagle who deserves to get into the Hall but isn't even on the ballot is corner back Eric Allen. Allen snagged a total of 54 interceptions during his career, nine of them were pick-six touchdowns returns.

Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz is being interviewed this coming weekend by the New York Giants for their head coaching job. He would know the Eagle system inside and out if he went to New York. He's been a good coordinator. I sometimes think he doesn't blitz enough, and at times plays soft with his zones. Schwartz also doesn't make adjustments on the fly very well. But he would be a loss if he fled to the Giants.

Tickets go on sale this morning at 10 a.m. for Eagles playoffs tickets. Hoping to get lucky and get through in an hour or so.It will be cold but how often do we have a playoff game in Philadelphia?

* To his credit, Joel Embiid played last night against San Antonio, scoring 21 points and collecting 11 rebounds in the Sixers' 112-106 win. Embiid sprained his shooting hand Sunday night after a bad fall in Phoenix. He was listed as "very doubtful" prior to the game, then suddenly made himself available.

I've questioned Embiid's toughness before, but I gotta give it to him, playing through obvious pain. With his back, knees and other ailments, it may be a common occurrence down the road, Embiid gutting it out.

Ben Simmons led the team with 26 points as the 76'ers won their third game in a row.
