THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY-FEBRUARY 8

Timeline: With the first selection...

On February 8, 1936, the National Football League held the first-ever college player draft. The first selection was made by the Philadelphia Eagles, who chose University of Chicago halfback Jay Berwanger, winner of the first Heisman Trophy two months earlier.

Also, one year ago today..

The Eagles championship parade. A cold day, a memorable day, as millions of fans lined broad Street down to the Art Museum to celebrate the Eagles first-ever Super Bowl championship.

So many great speeches at the Art Museum, especially the Jason Kelcie speech. Dressed as a colorful Mummer, Kelce gave a passionate, honest and somewhat outrageous pep talk to all who gathered, a speech which will forever like in Philadelphia sports history.
