OSCAR NIGHT- A REVIEW

My thoughts on Oscar night..

- The Oscars without a host was like a ship without a captain. The show didn't quite come in under three hours as hoped, but it moved along at a brisk pace.

- I was happy that Rami Malek won Best Actor  for playing Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. I was surprised that neither Glenn Close or Lady Gaga won for Best Actress. It was a night of "consolation" as Gaga got her Oscar, but not for acting. She won for Best Song "Shallow", which was co-written by Gaga. Spike Lee didn't win for best Director but he did get an Oscar for Best Adaptive Screenplay.  Then he reportedly bitched about "Green Book" winning for Best Film.

- I was also happy that Black Panther didn't win the big award for Best Picture.

- I was surprised that A Star Is Born was pretty much shut-out. In any other year, Bradley Cooper would've won Best Actor. Malek's portrayal of Mercury was so strong it wasn't going to happen with Cooper.

- My girlfriend loved the colorful, ever-changing Oscar stage and background. I felt it was annoying. Also annoying were the minor categories like Best Make-up were on the sir, but especially the winners who wouldn't leave the stage.

- I didn't miss the stupid bits done by hosts/comedians like Ellen Degeneris or Jimmy Kimmel.. I missed the opening monologue by a really funny comic like Steve Martin or Billy Crystal.

- I saw some of the Red Carpet and thought Amy Adams and Brie Larson were the hottest actresses.  I didn't see that many gowns that knocked me out.

- Already they are plugging the Martin Scorsase new film due for the fall, The Irishman, starring Robert DiNero, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. It would be nice to see more old time movie stars back at the Oscars again. I missed guys like Nicholson, Hoffman and Hanks. I didn't miss Meryl Streep at all. Barbra Steisand started to lecture her political views, and Spike Lee bumbled through his notes as he attempted to criticize Trump.
