- Bill Russell born on this date in 1934.

Bill Russell was the centerpiece of the Boston Celtics dynasty that won 11 NBA Championships during his 13-year career.

A five-time winner of the NBA Most Valuable Player Award and a 12-time All-Star, Russell also led the university of San Francisco to two consecutive NCAA championships ( 1955, 1956). and won a gold medal at the 1956 Summer Olympics as captain of the u.S. national basketball team.
