PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- SIXERS, PHILLIES, FLYERS

- Magical weekend for the Sixers, beating the Nuggets Friday night at home, then sending a statement to the world by crushing LeBron and the Lakers on Sunday afternoon. The Sixers swept L.A. this season.

The message was sent to the rest of the NBA that Philly will be a hand-full for the rest of the season. These new guys, like Tobias Harris, are gelling already. Embiid, Reddick, Simmons, Butler, McConnell...all playing great during this run. What's new about the current Sixer roster now is, if one guy is having a bad night there are plenty of other options to turn to for scoring.

With wins over tough Western Conference foes, we gotta look or at least think about how the Sixers would match-up in a potential Finals series. They have beaten the Warriors, Lakers and Nuggets recently. The feeling now is that the Sixers can not only hold their own in a seven-game series against anyone out west, they could win, especially if they have home court advantage.

Another big game this Tuesday night as the dreaded Boston Celtics  come to town. The Sixers and Celts are battling over the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. Revenge is on the Philadelphia side. Another statement game on tap, this time a signal to the East what may be down the road when the playoffs start.

- Among the local celebrities at the game on Sunday afternoon: Carson Wentz with Eagle teammate Alshon Jeffery ( no, he didn't drop his soda); Mike Trout ( please walk across the street and visit Phillies management; the usual attendees such as M. Night Shyamala and Simmons' girlfriend, Kendell Jenner.

- I have an uneasy, queasy feeling when I hear that Ben Simmons contacted  Lakers President Magic Johnson and asked him to meet this summer to make Ben "a better big point-guard. No doubt that Magic could help in this regard, being one of the best big guards ever. But Magic is the enemy. Something suspicious about  an organization working with a potential free agent down the road, helping  a foe improve. Simmons already likes the Hollywood scene. Now he's gonna work with the charming, influential Johnson? Please Sixers, just say no!

- Great week for the Phillies, getting J.T. Realmuto. There's word from USA Today that the San Francisco Giants, after meeting recently with Harper in Las Vegas, say they are "confident"  of signing him ( that's what the Phillies' officials thought after meeting with Harper after the holidays). Rumor is the giants are about to offer Harper a shorter but lucrative contract.

Phillies, time to step-up and spend that "stupid money" you crowed about. Sign him now! q The Giants are not the Yankees, Dodgers or Red Sox. Don't let them out-bid you. They are the stinkin' giants! Get it done!!

Spring training starts this week. Sign Harper, address the starting pitching, and get ready to rock this season! Don't let the fans down- we want to win now!

- Big game tonight as the Flyers host the Penguins. Pittsburgh holds down the second wild card spot so the Orange and Black badly need to beat the Pens in their first visit to Philly this season. Rookie sensation goalie Carter Hart will be playing tonight.
