On George Washington's Birthday, the U.S. hockey team outplayed the heavily favored Soviet Union in Olympic Games medal-round play. Mike Eruzione's goal with ten minutes remaining created the 4-3 difference that advanced the Americans into the Gold Medal game.

TV commentator Al Michaels answered himself: "...Yes!" Two days later, coach Herb Brooks' team USA defeated Finland 4-2 for the gold medal in lake Placid, New York, 1980.
