- Sixers center Joel Embiid truly is the face of Philadelphia sports now. he had yet another big game in last night's 122-120 home victory over San Antonia. Embiid had 33 points and 19 rebounds.
Who else could be the face of Philly sports? Not Carson Wentz, who had a shaky season before he got hurt again. Not Nick Foles, who may be the most popular player in the city but who is probably on the way out of town. Not Rhys Hoskins, who has yet to have a monster MVP-type season. Not Bryce Harper or Manny Machado yet. Not Claude Giroux, who also may be headed out the door after this season.
-The 76ers are 4-1 on their current stretch of games against teams with over .500 records. They hit the road now, starting Saturday night in Denver vs the tough Nuggets. Also on this trip are the Lakers and world champion Warriors.
- Brandy Halliday, wife of the late Roy Halliday has asked the Baseball Hall of Fame to induct her husband into immortality in July with a team logo on his plaque. in respect to both the Toronto Blue Jays and the Phillies, Doc will enter the hall without a team logo on his cap. Hopefully there will be tons of Phillies fans in Cooperstown, N.Y. on Sunday, July 21.
- If Harper does come to Philadelphia, what will happen to the number 34? Harper has worn 34 all his life. But 34 happened to be Halliday's number. Will the Phillies retire the number in the future?
- "No hard feelings" claims pitcher Aaron Nola, in arbitration with the Phils. After signing wither Harper or Machado, the organization should consider signing both Nola and Hoskins to long-term deals, clearing the deck for thier big push for Mike Trout in two years.
-A group of Phillies players were at the Sixers game last night. Surprisingly, they were booed by the fans, especially Manager Gabe Kapler. Is this because the Philly fans can't stand Kapler or is there still a bad taste in the fan's mouth from their epic collapse last summer?
-That stupid article about Wentz is slowly dying down, but did have legs nationally. hopefully next week, with all the hype over the Super Bowl in Atlanta, the story will go away.
- It will still be a fascinating off-season,with free agency up first, then trades on the horizon. April brings the NFL Draft and the release of the fall schedule. One thing we do know: the Eagles will not play overseas this year. no return trip to London.
