- Great news that Roy (Doc) Halliday made it into baseball's Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony in Cooperstown, New York will be on Sunday, July 21.
Doc will probably go in as a Toronto Blue Jay, but he is a Phillie all the way. He was like a brilliant comet who flashed across the sky in a brief but unforgettable time, gone too soon but never forgotten.
Since the news yesterday, film clips of the two Halliday no-hitters- his perfect game in Miami and his playoff no-hitter vs the Reds- are all over the Internet. They bring back memories and raise goosebumps. His control was pin-point. He could put the ball anywhere. He had four superior pitches. He worked fast and prepared for a game like no one else.
I wonder if the Phillies organization will retire his number 34?
I'm sure Halliday's wife, Brandy, will make a tender speech on Roy's behalf in July. Hopefully tons of Philadelphia fans will make the trek to Cooperstown this summer.
I try not to think of the terrible way Doc's life ended. gone way too soon at age 40. He is now enshrined with the other immortal baseball players. He only won 203 games but no one is more deserving.
- Citizens Bank Park will be upgraded this season. The Phillies announced a new Beer Garden/Picnic area is being built inside the third base gate and will be completed in time for Opening Day. Plus a new Shake Shack will open along side the new garden.
CBP is becoming a nice, friendly, family-oriented place to be. Still needed is a Phillies museum and an improved Home Run celebration.
- Hopefully the stupid article about Carson Wentz this week will die down. Written by a wannabe millennial so-called journalist, it's a phony story, given life because there isn't much to talk about right now. What made it worse was the writer's self- appreciating view that his piece of crap article will "make Wentz better" in time, like he is the extra motivation Wentz needs to succeed next season.
The local media is also at fault for giving this guy a platform to be famous. He will fade away in time as fans will label him as a hack journalist who is begging for clicks on a website.
- If the Phillies do sign Bryce Harper will he change numbers? He wears No. 34- the same number as Hall of Famer Roy Halliday.
- It will be interesting to see where all these lawsuits end up from the terrible none-call at the end of the Saints-Rams playoff game. They may bring even added attention to the increasing problem of horrible officiating.
When the Rams face the Patriots in Super Bowl LIII on February 3, how many fans will still be angry that New Orleans got screwed and should be in the big game?
