IN MY LIFE- THE BEST MOVIES OF 2018

I'm pretty picky about what movies i see. If I see between 8-10 a year I'm lucky. I enjoyed seeing grease again in the theater, as it celebrated it's 40th anniversary last spring. I won't count Grease as an "original" film. Probably the worst flick I saw was Disney's "A Wrinkle In Time", the over-hyped, over-bloated, all- Oprah turkey out early in the year.

The following are my five favorites, in no particular order. Some I saw in the big theaters like Oaks or King of Prussia, but a few I saw in the classic local movie house, the Colonial Theater, which added to the atmosphere and charm.

- Lean On Pete-

Saw this little gem at the Colonial. Loved it. Lots of unexpected twists and turns. A heartfelt drama, mostly about a kid and his horse.

The Old Man And A Gun-

Robert Redford's swan song from acting, he plays a charming, likeable senior citizen bank robber. Fun, fast story, if you can get by looking at Redford's face and wondering how he got so old.

A Star Is Born-

Saw this after all the hype had died down. It was worth it. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga were good, as was the music and the story, even though it pretty much following the recipe from previous remakes of the same story.

Bohemian Rhapsody-

The story of Freddie Mercury and the rock group Queen. I liked it better than most critics did. Of course I loved the music.

Leave No Trace-

The sleeper of the year, the #2 rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes website, it's a low-key true story of a war veteran and his daughter living on the grid in the Pacific Northwest. Hopefully it isn't forgotten come Oscar time.
