On this Day
On January 2, 1912, Charles Ebbets, president of the Brooklyn Superbas (today's Dodgers), announced the final purchase of land in the Pigtown section of Brooklyn, on which he would build a 23,000-seat, concrete-and-steel structure that he would name after himself, Ebbets Field.
The structure was ready for Opening Day in 1913 and was the home of the dodgers until 1957.
