PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- SIXERS FLYERS EAGLES PHILLIES

* The Sixers lost the one game on their current west coast trip i was pretty confident they would win, losing to the now 3-9 Sacramento Kings, 109-108 .Embiid looked rusty in the first half after sitting out the Utah Jazz game Tuesday night. The more difficult  part of the trip awaits with the world champion Warriors, then next week, games in LA vs both the Clippers and Lakers.

But this is going to be what we get from the 76'ers, especially thru the first half of the season. Until they learn to play together and they work out the back-to-back games and minute limitations for Embiid, there won't be consistency.

* The Flyers came up with a big effort last night at home, beating the Blackhawks 3-1. The Orange and Black hold more promise, playing some tough teams so far and having a solid 8-6-2 record so far, only 2 points off the lead in their division. They now have a home-and-home two games on tap with the Minnesota Wild.

* Zeke Elliot is out again-for now- likely to miss the Eagles game on Sunday Nov. 19. The easier the better. Some fans are grumbling that they want to beat the Cowboys at their best, with Elliot. Isn't the goal getting into the playoffs and winning the Super Bowl? And don't the Birds have a better chance to reach those goals with Elliot in their way?

I personally think the Eagles will face Elliot anyway before it's all over. Either in the final game of the season, on New Year's Eve in Philadelphia, or if Dallas earns a wild card berth and somehow faces the Eagles in the playoffs.

* Seattle stayed with the Los Angeles Rams by beating the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football. The downer for the Seahawks is that CB Richard Sherman tore his Achilles and is out for the season. Another break for the Eagles.

* The Eagles extended the contract of defense tackle Tim Jernigan , signing him to a four-game contract. He has made a huge difference in the run difference especially, a step-up from Bennie Logan. Jernigan is young, only 24, and will be the core of the defensive line along with Fletcher Cox.

* There's a video out of Roy Halliday's plane flying erratically before crashing into the Gulf of Mexico the other day. Rumors of Doc being a daredevil in his small plane, which has been called a "jet-ski with wings" were discussed.

Me? I want to give Roy the benefit of the doubt. He had too much to live for, especially the family he loved so much, to throw it all away with some crazy stunts.

The investigation into the cause of the crash won't be known for one, maybe even two years. I'm betting it was a mechanical failure. Granted, Doc was a relatively new pilot with a brand new plane. He may have misjudged his flight, but I believe time will tell that he wasn't reckless with his life, and he was the same responsible guy, even up to the end.
