* The Flyers lost their 8th game in a ow last night, 3-1 to San Jose. Boos reigned over the Wells Fargo Center all night. Chants of "Fire Hakstol!" echoed thru-out the arena.
How embarrassing to promote Flyers' Santa Sacks over the background of your own home fans booing like hell.
I made the mistake of recently buying a Santa Sack package for a January game against St. Louis. At least the Blues are a good team.
After the game, GM Ron Hextall held a news conference and proclaimed his support for coach Hakstol, amazingly saying that he didn't think the team waqs playing "poorly".
They've lost NINE consecutive games, yet the Flyers aren't playing poorly?
The problem is, Hexstall can fire Hakstol, but who fires the General Manager? We don't know, since Ed Snider died. there is no face to the organization. Is it Paul Holmgren? Is it some executive from Comcast that we don't know?
If you're not going to change the coach, who seems in over his head and unable to dig his way out of this mess, then maybe you change the players.
The scary thought is: have the Flyers over-evaluated their young talent?I know the defense in particular is very inexperienced. The goalies are average. The team still doesn't have enough scorers ( yet they traded Braydon Schinn to St. Louis, and he is tearing up the league).
Note to Phillies: it's cool to go young, but add a few veterans in the mix as well, like a Jayson Werth. Don't go all-in with youth, as the Flyers have done, and now are getting burned.
Maybe the most delusional item from the post-game talk was when Hexstall proclaimed he thought the Flyers would still make the playoffs. Maybe if he makes some changes.
The Flyers may be buried by Christmas . I'm sure their Santa Sack annual promotion is taking a hit right now.

The New York football Giants have benched quarterback Eli Manning. After starting 210 straight games, Manning will be riding the bench on Sunday. The great Geno Smith will be starting. Rookie David Webb will be on hand as well.
It seems the Giants want to see their young QBs before next spring's draft, when a good group of signal-callers will be available.
I could care less about pouty-faced Eli, but it has to sting Giant fans to know it has come to this.
I wouldn't be surprised to see manning get traded during the off-season. Teams like Denver or Jacksonville could milk a few more years out of Eli.
