PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- SIXERS, EAGLES, PHILLIES

* The Sixers start a 5-game west coast road trip tonight in Utah. Joel Embiid  is not supposed to play, under the term "hold management." Embiid last played on Friday. We thought he wouldn't play back-to-back games, but does this stretch means he is hurt yet again?

Two things: Embiid is a dynamic player- when healthy. Is he always going to be fragile and injury-prone? Is a promising career going to be derailed when is he constantly hurt or his minutes are being limited?

Also, is there any system or plan by the Sixers' organization and medical staff? Can the fans, especially during home games, count on Embiid playing on any particular night?

Without Embiid, the 76'ers are in trouble out west. Only Sacramento would be a winnable game.

By the way, Embiid was at the Eagles game Sunday with an unidentified Sixer. The guy is everywhere- the World Series, the Eagles, you name it. If we could see him on a basketball court that would be great.

The Eagles have the week off and can kick back and watch the rest of the league play this weekend. Dallas goes to Atlanta, which won't be easy for the Cowboys.

A key will be if/when Zeke Elliot starts serving his suspension.  Expect a desperate Dallas team, playing at home on Sunday Night Football, to come out strong. The birds will need to weather the storm early in order to take control late.

It would be nice to see the momentum continue to roll, but this bye week comes at a good time for Philly. Hopefully injured players like Ertz and Darby will be ready to go for the Cowboys.

Other then the start of the General Manager and Winter Meetings, the next step for the Phillies this off-season is new skipper Gabe Kapler filling out his coaching staff. As a manager with zero experience at the big league level, it will be interesting especially if Kapler hires an experienced guy to share the dugout.

The Phils may not go for free agent pitching this off-season, but I'd like to see them get ex-Phillie Jayson Werth back. He could be a reliable, veteran fourth outfield,a power bat off the bench, an a wise voice in the clubhouse..
