* The Sixers beat the LA Clippers late last night, 109-105 in Los Angeles. The Clippers have now lost 6 in a row. Joel Embiid went off, scoring 32 points, pulling down 16 rebounds and playing a season-high 35 minutes.
I had the Sixers going 3-2 on this 5-game western road trip. They are 2-2 so far, as they play their getaway game Wednesday night against the dreaded Lakers. Will Lonzo Ball's big-mouth father get involved, after calling out Embiid before the season?
Philly comes home Saturday night against the world champion Golden State Warriors, a game I will be attending. The 76'ers have lost 9 games in a row to the Warriors. it's time for revenge.
* The Flyers go to Minnesota to play a revenge game with the Wild. They have been so inconsistent this year. They also return home Saturday afternoon, facing the Calgary Flames- again, I'll be there
* The hype is in full force now for the big Eagles-Cowboys game on Sunday Night Football. Dallas is banged up, missing their starting left tackle, their kicker, their linebacker (Shawn Lee) and running back (Zeke Elliot). Still, the God-awful Giants went into Denver and beat the Broncos earlier this season (As it turns out, Denver is almost as bad).So anything can happen.
But the Eagles are coming off a bye. They have revenge from blowing the Cowboy game in Dallas last year. They know they can bury Dallas with a victory. The Eagles would be 9-1, the Cowboys would be 5-5. Stick a fork in the "Boys.
A loss wouldn't be devastating for the Birds. They would still have a two-game lead in NFC East. It would make the final game of the year-a New Year's Eve clash at the Linc- much more interesting.
I'll make my pick later in the week. The Eagles are simply the better team and it's time to kick Dallas while they're down.
* The Phillies start selling their 3-game packs on Friday, Nov. 17. Time to look forward to summer and seeing a full season of Rhys Hoskins, Nick Williams and Scott Kingery,
By the way, General Manager Matt (Clueless) Klentak made yet another stupid comment yesterday, saying the Phillies don't "need" Miami Marlin slugger Giancarlo Stanton.
I agree that Stanton's hefty contract makes a trade for him difficult to swallow. Plus the Phils would almost certainly have to deal a few of their good, young prospects to Miami. But to say that a team which lost 96 games this summer doesn't need a player in his prime, who hit 59 home runs, is ridiculous.
An outfield of Nick Williams in left, Aaron Altherr in center, and Stanton in right would look good. Young, powerful and speedy. I would have to at least call the Marlins and see what they would want in return. It won't happen, because Klentak isn't bold enough to make the move. Stanton will go to St. Louis and make them contenders again, or go to Boston and wreck havoc with the Green Monster at Fenway Park.
Whatever, with the General Manager meetings and the Winter meetings coming up, Klentak needs to be creative and add pitching to make the team competitive in 2018. Time to move forward.
* The Carolina Panthers crushed the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football. Carolina is 7-3 and will battle New Orleans for supremacy in NFC South, with Atlanta trying to hang in there. The Eagles beat the Panthers, so any tie-breaker situation goes to the Birds.
As stated before, if the Eagles get home field advantage in the playoffs, who's gonna beat them? Minnesota out of their dome, despite a good defense, is beatable. Same way with New Orleans. Out of the dome, a different team. Drew Brees would scare me, since he's been through the experience of the playoffs before.
I wouldn't like Seattle away from their "12th man" home (plus Richard Sherman is gone), and the Rams, playing in cold weather, are too inexperienced to go deep in the playoffs
The kicker would be if Green Bay somehow sneaks into the playoffs and Aaron Rodgers returns. Home or away, you don;t want to face Rodgers in the playoffs.
