PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- FLYERS, EAGLES

* The Flyers lose again- their 5th game in a row- and have lost the last 6 out of 7 home games.

The Orange and Black will never win a Stanley Cup until they:

1- Get another coach. Dave Hakstol is done. He is dull and this team, which has loads of young talent, has taken on the persona of it's boring coach.

2- Get a true No. 1 goalie- Signing Brian Elliot was not a really big upgrade from Steve Mason. Let's face it- Michael Nurwirth isn't a real No. 1 either. Both are holding down the spot until  one of the Flyers' young goalies in the minors is promoted.

The defense is young and inexperienced. The team is faster yet still has trouble scoring at times.

Too bad Ed Snider isn't around. He wouldn't put up with this lackluster play. The Flyers are lucky that the Eagles and Sixers are playing well, Otherwise the Flyers would be the top story in the city- and not in a good way.

GM Ron Hextall is so damn deliberate with his players, would he pull the trigger,, fire Hakstol, and bring in a more experienced coach?

The Flyers play the Islanders tonight in New York, then again in their traditional Black Friday game Friday afternoon. Hopefully the Flyers turn it around sooner than later.

Speaking of our hockey team, the Flyers will play their inter-state rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins at Lincoln Financial Field in a Winter Classic game on February 2019. It will be cool to see 60,000 fans cram a jam-packed Linc to watch hockey- especially if it's snowing.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and we should all give thanks to the Lord for all of our blessings, including the Eagles. They are a joy to so many people- real football fans and casual fans. People scheduled their lives around the games with parties. The holidays will be even more joyful knowing the beloved Birds will be heading to the playoffs soon.

I also think of the sick and bend-ridden,people who maybe aren't having the best Thanksgiving ever. The eagles give them hope and something to look forward to and to keep going for.

I worked in nursing homes for 30 years and I know how important the Eagles are for a lot of those residents who may not much to smile about.

So it's cool the Eagles are 9-1. They are bringing everyone together- football fan or not- just when we need it most.

Questions: Would the Eagles go to the White House to meet President Trump if they win the Super Bowl? Would the NFL allow Eagles fans gather at the Linc to watch the Super Bowl together? Who would we rather play in the Super Bowl- Pittsburgh ( imagine the inter-state hype- Wentz vs Rotehburger), New England ( revenge against Belicheck and Brady). or Kansas City ( Andy Reid vs Doug Pederson- the coach and the pupil).

So, here are my predictions for the Thanksgiving  football games...

Vikings at Lions-

Traditional early football in Detroit. The Lions need a win to move to within a game of Minnesota in NFC North. The Viking defense is playing great and can just about wrap-up the division and a playoff spot with a win

Lions 24 Vikings 21

Chargers at Cowboys-

Dallas is coming off an embarrassing loss to the Eagles on Sunday night. Plus they are still banged-up. The Chargers are better, and always dangerous with Philip Rivers at quarterback, LA needs a win to stay in reach of a wild card berth, while Dallas is in the same boat. Something's gotta give.I think it will be a shoot-out.

Cowboys 34 Chargers 27

Giants at Redskins-

More or less a meaningless division game on Thanksgiving night. Washington my have an outside shot at a wild card; the Giants have no reason to play hard.

Redskins 24 Giants 7
