PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- SIXERS, PHILLIES

- My take on the terrible Sixers loss in Toronto last night..

* If Joel Embiid was that sick last night- and he again looked like death warmed over- why was he even playing? Charles Barkley was right- Embiid sucked the life and energy out of the rest of the team. Why didn't the rest of the team rally around their ill star instead of getting blown out by 36 points?

* Jimmy Butler was the only guy to again step up in Game 5. He has become the true leader on this team, not Embiid. He needs to be resigned after the season, if he wants to stay in Philly.

* It was an embarrassing loss in Toronto. The Raptor players and fans stepped on the Sixers' necks and reveled in their futility. To think the 76ers were one game away from being up 3-1 in the playoff series and are now one game away from elimination.

* Ben Simmons is soft. He can't shoot and is afraid to shoot. He can't make free throws so he is scared to get fouled. His value is low so it's not a good time to trade Simmons. Apparently GM Elton Brand wanted to deal Simmons last off-season and Brett brown stopped him. I wouldn't sign Simmons to an extension. So what do the Sixers do? Simmons needs to stay in the gym this summer, forget Kendall Jenner or the Kardashian girl, and improve his game.

* Brown should get fired if the team loses Thursday night at home. I had thought if the Sixers got deep into this Toronto series Brown would be safe, but not in the humiliating way the squad is giving up. Brown is a loser with a loser's mentality. I have written this before: the Sixers will never win a championship with Brett Brown as head coach. The team is a more disciplinarian as coach, not a soft, player-friendly guy like brown.

* The owner, Joshua Harris, made the statement that the team needed to go farther in the playoffs. If they lose to the Raptors they will be eliminated in the second round once again. I think Harris will pull the trigger and finally relieve brown of his duties if the Sixers go home early again.

- The Phillies crushed the cardinals, 11-1, which included four hits by Rhys Hoskins, and his 11th home run, and a grand slam by Bryce Harper, his fourth slam of his career. Aaon Nola went seven effective innings and is starting to look like the Nola of old. The club can win arare series in St. Louis with a win this afternoon. Jerod Eichoff goes today against Cards right-hander Jack Flarety.

It's on to Kansas City for a weekend series with the Royals. It will bring back memories of the 1980 World Series when the Phils won their first world championship.

Phillies chairman Dave Montgomery passed away this morning after a long battle with cancer. By all accounts, Montgomery was a nice guy and ran the Phillies like a family. He made have made a few questionable baseball decisions because of his loyalty to players and his staff, but no one can ever question his love of the Phillies and baseball an dhis desire to win.

Rest in peace, Dave Montgomery.
