The Phillies redeem themselves by sweeping the Colorado Rockies over the weekend. Bryce Harper hit his second consecutive homer to deep center field, this one landing at the back of the Phils' bullpen. On Saturday Harper launched a titanic home run over the center field brick wall and onto Ashburn Alley, some 466 feet from home plate.
J.T .Realmuto clubbed a pinch-hit homer run to tie the game for the Phils at 5-5 before Harper's bomb in the sixth inning. Pat Neshek saved the game in the ninth.
The Phillies went 4-3 on their home stand, after losing 3 of 4 to Milwaukee. The team is now a season high eight games over .500 with a record of 27-19. They are 2 1/2 games ahead in National League East over the Braves.
Scott Kingery came off the IL yesterday and promptly started in center field. Expect Kingery to get more time in center field. He has the speed to play the outfield and a decent arm. The team wants his bat in the line-up. Cesar Hernandez has hit well recently, and even though he has had mishaps in the field, he continues to hold down second base.
A very tough road trip starts tonight in Chicago with four games at Wrigley Field against the Central Division leading Cubs. Jake Arietta pitches for the first time against his former club. The Phillies face Cole Hamels for the first time on Wednesday night. He is 4-0 this season.
The weekend ahead takes Philadelphia to Milwaukee as the Phils seek revenge vs a Brewers team that beat them 3 out of 4 games at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies then return home for a brief three game set against St. Louis before hitting the road again to the West Coast to play the Dodgers and Padres.
- The Eagles will miss retired Chris Long. Not only was he a consistent pass rusher when he did play, Long was active in the community as well. He was the NFL's Man of the Year in 2018. There is talk that if the Birds get thin on the defensive lie Long may think about returning. Til then, Vinnie Curry and the healthy Derek Barnett need to step it up to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
OTAs continue today. The big story will be the health of Carson Wentz. Red flags will go up if he is still on the shelf and unable to participate.
