The Red Sox pasted the Phillies four games to one in the 1915 World Series. Alexander notched the lone Philly win in Game 1, when he bettered his counterpart Ernie Shore 3-1. But Rube Foster, Dutch Leonard and Shore ( who combined for a 53-23 mark during the regular season, won the next four games.

The Phillies were swept by the Yankees in the 1950 World Series. and so it wasn't until 1980, when Bob Walk won Game 1, that another Philadelphia pitcher tasted victory.
