THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY- OCTOBER 26

For the Glory

On October 27, 1973, Penn State running back John Cappelletti delivered four touchdowns as a birthday gift for his brother Joey, who was battling leukemia. Penn State crushed Bobby Bowden and West Virginia 62-14 at Happy Valley. Coach Paterno personally made sure ##22 delivered when he got word of the request by the ten-year-old younger brother of his gifted running back.

The effort by Cappelletti catapulted him into Heisman Trophy contention.
