PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- WORLD SERIES, SIXERS, EAGLES

- The Red Sox slugged their way to a 8-4 victory last night in Game 1 of the World Series. I can't see Dodger pitching shutitng down the powerful Boston bats. The red Sox are going to bludgeon their way to a world championship.

Give the Sox credit. They won a franchise-high 108 games this season. They beat the rival Yankees all summer , then defeated them in the playoffs. They beat the defending champs, the Astros. Now they take on the Dodgers and lead the series 1-0.

Los Angeles needs to win tonight at Fenway Park to split the series and give themselves a shot. If they lose and go down 0-2, even sweeping all three games in LA won't do it. They would still need to win one of two games in Boston. Stealing the game tonight eases some of the pressure and puts the pressure on the Red Sox.

The Dodgers have experience and flexibility in their line-up. But after Kershaw, I can't see another Dodger hurler holding Boston at bay for long.

- The Sixers lost a heartbreaker last night in Detroit, bowing to the Pistons in overtime, 133-132. Blake Griffin scored a career-high 50 points for Detroit, including a three-point game-winner.

Sixer defense must be a concern. So are injuries, a reason why I took the Sixers winning under 53 1/2 games this season. They aren't as deep, plus they have fragile players.

The team is starting No.1 overall pick Markelle Fultz but not plaiyng him in crunch time due to defensive liabilities. Makes no sense. I question having J. J. Reddick come off the bench.

Philly plays in Milwaukee tonight.

- More bad news for the Eagles: DE Derek  Barnett , a big part of the defensive line, is out for the year with shoulder surgery. The Birds overcame injuries last season to win a Super Bowl, but there seems to be a different vibe in 2018.

3-4 Eagles vs 3-4 Jacksonville on Sunday morning from London.
