CHIRPING BIRDS- EAGLES- PANTHERS- THE PICK

The Eagles are 3-3 and beat up on the Giants last Thursday night. They looked more like the super bowl team they are. Or were the Giants that bad?

Minnesota got their revenge recently, beating the Birds at the Linc, where the Eagles are 17-3 during the Doug Pederson era. I can't see them losing two straight at the Linc. Plus the Panthers are 3-0 at home in Carolina but winless on the road.

QB Cam Newton is always tough, especially when he scrambles. Running quarterbacks always seem to give the Eagles' defense problems ( witness Marcus Mariotta earlier this season). With a solid defense and the ability to score I expect Carolina to be in playoff contention at the end.

Injuries are still a key factor for Philly. Will Jason Peters play? Darren Sproles is most likely out. What about RB Corey Clement?

As the NFL trade deadline nears, this week's game will go a long way in telling if GM Howie Rossman makes a move or not. Another running back, a speedy wide receiver and a shut-down corner back are all on the wish-list.

Windy and chilly is the forecast for Sunday. No rain. Great football weather.

The Birds are favored by 4 1/2 points. I see them covering the line. Getting off to a fast start and winning the turnover battle are keys to victory.

With a win, Philadelphia would go 4-3 and heading to London next week to face the Jaguars. Dallas and Washington play each other, so one has to lose. I always hate for the Cowboys to win, but a Washington home loss would be nice.

Make it Eagles 23 Panthers 14
