- The Eagles are back from their British Invasion. The NFL trade deadline is 4pm today. Will the Birds make a move?
They need to fill some holes at running back, wide receiver, the secondary and offensive line. Makes no sense to deal away high draft picks for temporary help. Makes sense, if you make a trade, to get help not only for now, but for years to come.
If GM Howie Rossman gets former Eagle wide-out DeSean Jackson I'll be happy. Jackson wants out of Tampa Bay. He is still fast, even at 32 years old. The Birds need a home run hitter, someone who will stretch the field.
The organization has 11 draft picks next spring, including two second rounders. Realistically, if Philly wins the NFC East they will not only get into the playoffs but also a home playoff game. They are not going to have a better record than the undefeated Rams, or maybe even New Orleans. They already lose a tie-breaker with Minnesota and Carolina.
If another team needs a quarterback (Denver, Jacksonville or Buffalo?) would Howie trade Nick Foles? Foles only has eight games left as an Eagle. At the end of the season Foles will walk as a free agent. Today is the last chance to get something for Foles. Sudfeld would be the back-up quarterback this season. What would Philly get for Foles? Interestiing to consider..
- The Sixers blew out a bad Atlanta Hawks team last night in South Philadelphia. The 78ers are undefeated at home but are winless on the road. The team flies to Toronto tonight to play the tough Raptors and Kawhi Lenard.
- WIP Sports Radio host Angelo Cataldi made the announcement this morning that Wing Bowl, after 26 years, is over. He sounded tearful, and I'm thinking it was more of a corporate decision to pull the plug. With the Eagles good now, and the possibility of reaching the Super Bowl, I'm sure radio management would want the Morning Team at the Super Bowl and not stuck doing a Wing Bowl.
It was a fun event, meant to take the place of the Eagles in the Super Bowl. I never attended a Wing bowl but did listen to it on the radio. It made fat nobodys a somebody. It gave fans a chance to get drunk and take off from work every first Friday in February. It was mindless fun and would be a great topic for a future movie or documentary.
Obviously, things are changing at WIP. Last year the Morning Show went to Los Angeles for the Rams game. This year they stay home. Now it's R.I.P. Wing Bowl. Is Angelo's retirement far behind?
