"Catholics vs. Convicts"

On this day in 1988, #4 Notre Dame knocked down a 2-point conversion with 45 seconds remaining and held on to beat #1 Miami. Defensive end Frank Stams led a Notre Dame defense that forced seven turnovers. The game, hyped as the "Catholics vs. Convicts," ended the Hurricanes' 36-game regular-season win streak. The Irish would go on to win their only national championship under Lou Holtz.
