- As expected, the Sixers lost their opener last night in Boston, getting crushed by 18 points. The Celtics have now won 16 of the last 19 games vs the 76ers. It will only get worse with young star Jason Tatum shining for Boston, and Markelle Fultz slumping for the Sixers.
That move- the Sixers trading up to the #1 pick and selecting Fultz, while the Celts fell to #3, picked up an additional #1 draft pick, and took Tatum- will haunt Philly for years. It may turn out to be the worst move ever in Philadelphia sports history.
Teams will collapse on center Joel Embiid if Fultz and Ben Simmons cannot or refuse to shoot. Did the pair really work on their shooting during the off-season? Without Bellini and Illyasova as long-range shooters, only J.J. Reddick is reliable as a three-point threat.
OK, it's only one game, but warning signs are all over. Coach Brett Brown is still clueless, a loser with a loser's mentality. The Sixers will win over 50 games this season, beating up on lesser Eastern Conference clubs. but will they ever get by Boston?

The Flyers blew a three-goal lead last night but beat winless Florida in a shoot-out, 6-5. Inconsistent, especially at home so far this young season. I still don't trust their goalies and feel they won't go anywhere until they either get a true No. 1 goaltender or a youngster like Carter Hart comes up from the minors and takes over between the pipes.
The new flyers' mascot, Gritty, is everywhere and has become a sensation. The organization made a brilliant marketing move by employing a mascot, and gettingDave Raymond, the creator and original Philly Phanatic, to create Gritty as well.
For the stuffy, uptight flyers' die-hard fans who dislike Gritty- lighten-up! Sports is supposed to be fun. Gritty brings some life to the franchise, and not only for the kids who happen to be hockey fans, but for all ages.

Game 5 of a playoff series often decides the entire series. No difference in the Dodger-Brewer National League Championship Series, with things knotted at 2-2. One more game in Los Angeles, and it has to be another must-win for the Dodgers. They don't want to return to Milwaukee down 3-2 and needing to sweep in Milwaukee.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox have taken a 2-1 lead in the American League Championship Series against the Astros. We all knew this would be a tight series between an 108 win team and the defending world champs. I still say Boston in six.

Manny Machado will soon become a free agent after the Dodger season ends, good or bad. In a recent interview, Machado is making news by claiming he doesn't always hustle. Not another Odubel Herrera?
The difference is that Machado is a star. He can probably get away for not always hustling on the baseball diamond because he hits home runs and plays outstanding defense. But there really is no good reason not to hustle all rhe time. Machado will probably make a good $300-400 million as a free agent soon . Should the Phillies still try to sign a player who admits to not hustling all the time?
The Phils need a shortstop/third baseman, need power and a .300 hitter. Machado is a young superstar. Would his attitude play with the other young guys on the Phillies?
The Phillies need talent. Sign Machado. And Harper.
