The Kaiser

On July 6, 1974, the World Cup Soccer Championship was captured by a West Germany squad captained by Franz Beckenbauer. Their 3-2 victory over Holland thrilled the home fans of Munich. Upon winning a second "Ballon d'Or" as 1976 European Player of the Year, Beckenbauer jumped to the North American Soccer League. Teamed with Pele, he led the New York Cosmos to the championship and was named league MVP. (1974-1977).
