- Tough Phillies loss to Dodgers. Defense continues to suck, especially Alfaro, Too many passed balls. can Carlos (Chooch) Ruiz return as coach to tutor the young catchers?
- Jackass. pompous Dodger beat writer on Philly Sports Talk discounts Phillies to make playoffs. Says Machado will "go to whoever gives him the most money after season. Duh! Smug guy. LA sucks..
- Now even Dominguez is blowing out, falling apart last night in the 9th inning. yet GM Klentak claims bullpen is fine..
- Phillies had scout in Texas to watch Cole Hamels get bombed against A's. I still think he would come cheaply now and would help the rotation. What do you have to lose? Hamels is a big-game pitcher and would give the staff experience and a lefty starter.
- Utley and Machado get warm welcomes from Philly fans. No need of dopey local media to lecture fans on behavior. We ain't Milwaukee..
- Utley got the standing ovation he deserved early, then more applause later. Hopefully he plays on Wednesday when I'm there.Machado was greeted warmly. He showed the excitement Phillie fans will miss the rest of the summer- plus what the future may hold if the front office signs him after the season.
- Nola pitches tonight. Need to tie series. With loss, Phils drop into 1st place tie with Atlanta. Braves have one more game in Florida with Marlins, then Dodgers travel to Atlanta on Thursday for four-game set.
- I hate the Phillies bench! Valentin, Walding, Plouffe- no pop. Klentak needs to add depth. Roman Quinn would be nice addition as extra outfielder once he is ready. I can easily see him leading-off and stealing a base late in a game.
- Klentak continues to have a loser mentality. We saw the impact of Machado, with his excitement, drive, power and speed. Klentak says "We made a strong run at him" Not good enough! Klentak failed, that's the bottom line.
- I've said it before- I've seen enough Tommy Hunter in the bullpen. He gives up a run every time out. He's a free agent bust, along with Arrieta and Santana. The bullpen needs help, like a Zach Britton or even more, with Ramos now on DL.
- How to fix Phillies' awful defense/ 1. Get netter players 2. Play guy in their normal positions ( Hoskins, Kingery) 3. Get better coaching ( Chooch) 4. Stress fundamental more.
- Kapler and his excuses again after the game, giving lazy Alfaro a free pass after supposed wild pitch by Siranthony in 9th inning. To his credit, even Alfaro admitted that he needed to stop that ball in the dirt.
- As much as I hate to admit it, Kingery is killing the line-up. He chases at too many bad pitches and looks over-matched at times. Why not play him a this normal position at second base when Hernandez is out?
- Atlanta Falcons' WR Julio Jones plans to sit out training camp- and maybe the season- in a contract dispute. More good news for the Eagles, especially the first game of the year vs. Atlanta.
