THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY- JULY 14

Wimbleton Tradition: Strawberries and Cream

The official Wimbeton strawberry is the Elsanta variety, grown at farms in Kent, England. Picked the day before the event, the strawberries are brought to the Wimbleton championships at 5:30 a.m. for inspection and hulling. The strawberries are accompanied by double cream. Approximately 63,000 pounds of strawberries and 1,500 gallons of cream are sold each year during the Wimbleton tennis championships.
