PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, SIXERS, , NBA PLAYOFFS

- Another devastating loss on the current road trip from Hell, as the Phillies choked in Chicago last night, losing 7-5 on a walk-off grand slam by Jayson Heyward.  Gabe Kapler blew the game by pulling Siranthoney Dominguez in the 9th inning, in favor of the routine Adam Morgan. He isn't a closer. He's just another set-up guy, similar to Kyle Kendrick..

- After the game Kapler seemed satisfied with the effort. Kapler is too happy with bad losses, lack of hustle, poor fundamentals and porous defense, and tons of mental mistakes. I'd like to see Kapler show a little passion and be critical of his team, when deserved. Kapler is lucky this game was on the road. Can you imagine the boos at Citizens Bank Park?

- I just can't see the awful combo of Klentek/Kapler leading the Phillies to glory, can you?

- Yet again the team played poorly on defense. They seem tight, thinking too much, too many shifts, too much analytics. They came out of spring training lacking in fundamentals. They don't play small ball, don't bunt, don't steal enough bases, don't move runners and don't hit in the clutch.Fundamentally, something is wrong with this Phillies squad.

- The club choked  and blew a chance to take the series a t Wrigley Field, and despite all the turmoil, had a chance of a decent road trip. They have a getaway game this afternoon in Chicago, then finally come home ( where they are 19-9 so far this season) and play the NL Central division-leading Brewers and the solid Rockies.

- Dylan Cozens should be playing more. He hit his first big league homer last night, going to the opposite field for a 2-run homer, which at the time looked like a game-winner. The team needs offense, and despite the strikeouts, Cozens can provide instant offense to this struggling club.

= If the Phillies aren't going to use Dominguez strictly as a closer, are there closers available via trade? not having a dependable closer will kill the team this summer.

- The Phils remain 2 1/2 games out of first place in NL East, with the nationals and Braves battling it out for the top spot.Let's see if the team can bounce back from another bad loss.

- Still no word on the fate of bran Colangelo. There must be some feeling by the clueless owners that Colangelo did nothing wrong, and didn't even know about the Twitter mess. Why else would this take so long to resolve? But if Colangelo returns, how can he be trusted?

- The Golden State Warriors are one win away from sweeping Cleveland the claiming their third consecutive NBA world championship. Time to use the word "dynasty" if it hasn't been used yet. LeBron may be playing his last game with the Cavs. But unless the Sixers quickly resolve the Colangeo mess he won't be coming to Philly. Why would he want to?

- Finally, let's not sugar-coat it: signing Carlos Santana was a huge mistake. He's not that good, both in the field and at bat. He doesn't hustle all the time. And he has forced Rhys Hoskins to left field. Another Klentek blunder.
