- The Phillies earned a split last night in Los Angeles, beating the Dodgers 2-1. After a devastating loss in Game 1 on Monday, when the team blew a 4-0 lead late, they rebounded nicely to win 2 out of the next 3. The team moves on to San Francisco for a weekend series. The Phils swept the Giants at home in early May, a four-game sweep.
- The Phillies remain 1 game behind Atlanta for first place, 1/2 game behind Washington for second. As Philadelphia plays SF this weekend, the Braves and Nationals battle for supremacy in NL East down in Atlanta. The Phils just need to take care of business and let the Nats and Braves kill each other.
- Aaron Nola pitched 7 inning, 2-hit ball, moving his record to 7-2 on the season. Siranthony Dominguez, who should be the permanent closer, despite his age, pitched two more scoreless, hit less innings. Two dominating performances.
- Rhys Hoskins won't need surgery, which is a break. He would've been out months with surgery. now he can be back in a matter of weeks. Lucky! Freak injury will also give Hoskins a much-needed rest and time to evaluate his up-and-down first part of the season. Meanwhile, Altherr, Williams, Franco, Cozens and others need to step up and prove they are more than just prospects.
- Last year, the team went into a death spiral after a devastating loss in LA in April. But this is a different team with a new leader. Great starting pitching and a new attitude will serve the club well this summer and keep them in contention. Defense needs to improve, as does clutch hitting.
- Will Sixers' GM Colangelo get fired today? The 76ers are the laughingstock of the league, let alone sports. Makes sense he will be let go- Friday afternoon. Time to search for a new GM before the NBA draft and free agency starts. The more this lingers, the worst it is. Time to move on?
