A special edition of Phillies Phodder, mostly because I can't take it anymore...
As the Phillies sink into the summer and fall out of contention, I'm calling l for Phillies' GM Matt Klenak's firing.
Exactly what has he done? He has made only one significant trade- Ken Giles to Houston for Vince Valasquez and other losers ( too soon to say if this is a bust). Otherwise, what has he done?
He sucks at talent evaluation ( remember Michael Saunders- the guy "who can carry a team for a month?"). His drafting sucks ( No. 1 overall Mickey Moniak hasn't even sniffed Reading, while both Washington and Atlanta have 20-year-old kids playing well in the majors).His free agent signings suck ( despite what Joe Giglio says, signing Santana was a huge mistake. He's not that good, plus he forced Hoskins to play left field).
Under Klentak, no wonder the Phillies' defense is the worst in baseball. Too many guys playing unfamiliar positions. Kingery should be at 2B. Hoskins at 1B.. Crawford at SS ( remember Freddie Galvis and his excellent defense?). Think of it- it would almost be like asking Flethcher Cox to play safety or Claude Giroux to play goalie. It's STUPID!!!
Under Klentak, the offense sucks. Kapler ( whom Klentak hired) manages like he is in the American League. No bunts,steals, or hit-and-runs. They currently do not have a .300 hitter on the team. Will anyone hit 20 or more home runs, which should be a given in Citizens Bank Park?
Other than Siranthony, I don't trust anyone in the bullpen. Neris, Ramos, Morgan, Garcia- you can have them. Will Neshek pitch this summer?
I get it, . The team isn't ready yet for the playoffs. Machado and Harper await after the season. ( Will Klentak get one or the other, none or both? ) But why sign an Arrieta ( which I was for, to bring hope to the fans, and stability to the rotation) if you didn't plan on contending this year?
Klentak is the problem here. I'm glad you see it. Too bad other media members- or John Middleton- can't see it. If the Phillies become sellers instead of buyers in July ( which would be embarrassing ), hopefully Santana gets traded, Hoskins goes back to first, Hernandez gets dealt, Kingery plays second, and both Klentak and Kapler get fired after the season.
KLENTAK MUST GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
