PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- EAGLES, PHILLIES, SIXERS,STANLEY CUP FINALS

- President Trump dis invited the Eagles to visit the White House today, citing differences in honoring the National Anthem. Reportedly, only 10 or fewer Eagle players and personnel were going to show up to meet Trump. Not one Bird knelt last season during the National Anthem, even though Trump has made it a point that this lack of interest is all because of the Anthem.

Life will go on, but it is a shame.Championship teams visiting the White House is customary. The Birds deserve to be honored like teams before them. Can't wait for football season to begin and we can focus on the games again, and the Eagles repeating as champs.

- The Phillies open a big three-game series in Chicago vs the Cubs tonight. Let's see if the team bounces back after a disastrous lost weekend in San Francisco, in which the Phils only scored one run all weekend ( that by a Jake Arrieta home run). With the Braves losing last night in San Diego, Philly is still only 2 1/2 games  behind Atlanta, and only a single game in the loss column. A good series at Wrigley Field could salvage the road trip and set-up the team for their upcoming home stand against Milwaukee and Colorado.

Zach Eflin pitches tonight vs the Cubbies, who are two games behind the Brewers in NL Central.

- As predicted, the club selected Wichita State third baseman Alec Bohm with the third overall pick in the MLB draft last night. Bohm is a tall ( 6'5) power-hitter with a good command of the strike zone. The Phillies feel he will stick at third, and hope he progresses thru their system quickly.

- One of the most surprising stories in this baseball season is the Seattle Mariners. They are currently in first place  in AL West, 17 games over .500. The Mariners were supposed to be good, maybe challenge for a wild card spot, but no one thought they would be ahead of the world champion Astros and the Mike Trout-led Angels. All this and second baseman Robinson Cano out.

The Red Sox and Yankees are battling in AL East, as expected. The Detroit Tigers are surprising in AL Central. The Giants and Dodgers are creeping up in NL West , NL Central is tightly-packed with Chicago, Pittsburgh and St. Louis lurking behind Milwaukee.

- The longer the Colangelo issue drags on, the worse is gets. The NBA draft and free agency is looming. The 76ers are the laughingstock of sports. Yet the organization- not very organized anyway- takes its time  and the investigation plods along. you gotta think something will happen soon, at least by the end of the week.

- Looks like the Capitals will win their first Stanley Cup with one more win against Vegas. But be aware- the Caps have been known to choke before, and this feisty Golden Knights squad  won't give up, as the series returns to Vegas. Even if the Knights do fail. they have had a magical season, an expansion team making it to their sports' championship series.
