- The Phils lost in LA last night, 8-2 but that wasn't the big story. A CAT-scan revealed that Rhys Hoskins has a fractured jaw from the foul ball he took off his face on Monday night. Hoskins returned to Philadelphia where further evaluation is pending. He will go on the DL for sure. Surgery may be needed to fix the jaw. We should know today.
Meanwhile, looks like outfielder Dylan Cozens will be called up from Lehigh Valley to fill in. This is Cozens' big shot. He was the other Bash Brother to Hoskins in the minors. He strikes out too much but in the world of analytics, that doesn't matter. He does bring raw power to an offensively-challenged club. He can run and has a rocket arm. Hopefully he sticks and becomes the everyday right fielder, leaving the team with a nice problem to solve when Hoskins returns.
- Aaron Nola faces Clayton Kershaw tonight in a classic pitchers' duel. Chance for the Phillies to split the series/Kershaw, coming off the DL, may only go 5 or 6 innings. Nola comes off a game where he had a no-hitter into the 7th inning. Big game to win tonight, going into San Francisco.
- The Phils are now 1 1/2 games behind the streaking Washington Nationals, who took over first place. The good thing is that the Phillies have 16 games left with the Nats, including all three series at Citizens Bank Park. Neris blowing that last game on Sunday, May 6 was key. I siad back then, building up as much of a lead on Washington as you can before they get hot.
- Even if it turns out that Bryan Colangelo's wife was behind the fake Twitter accounts, he is still guilty. He leaked confidential medical information, and 3 of the accounts were deleted or made private when the Sixers found out. I wouldn't trust him now, not that I did before. But what if Colangelo and his wife were in it together? What if she used her phone number in case they were caught?
- Either way, this mess needs to be cleared up quickly, as the draft is upcoming and free agency starts on July 1st. Would Brett Brown fill in until the Sixers hire a new GM?
