Hard to believe the finals for American Idol are next week already. The season seems rushed. Seems like only yesterday it was Hollywood week. Maybe next season, with the show being renewed, they will take it slower. I do like the immediate voting. The results are exciting at the end, with the drama building.
- I was right- and I was wrong. I didn't think rocker Cade would win. David Cook was the exception, but generally rockers get far but are not the ultimate Idols. Look at Adam Lambert and Daughtry. They have solid careers, as will Cade, but they didn't win the whole thing. Cade was not good the last few weeks. It was fun to see Cade make Carrie Underwood blush.
- I thought Michael j. would win. I was wrong. i guess America got tired of the glitzy, big show number ( as they did with Ada Vox). Hard to say where Michael J. will end up. Maybe Broadway?
- Maddie should win now. She's got a silky-smooth voice. She's an old-fashioned old soul. I love her song choices, from "Brand New Key" to last night- "I Told You So" and "God Only Knows." Plus she's cute. A little insecure, but I think that's why America likes her. No ego. Simple, no frills, coffee-house-type singer. Refreshingly honest.
- Caleb may be her biggest competition. Lionel was right when he said you can close your eyes while listening to Caleb and recognize his voice. He's a simple guy too, funny. a bit awkward on stage, a Randy Travis-type of voice. Win or not, Caleb will have a good career in Nashville now.
- I'm surprised that Gabby made it. Her first song, she tried too hard to sound like Carrie Underwood. Better second song, doing Whitney Houston. As America seems to tire of the big, splashy number, I just don't think she will win, but Gabby should have a career in Country Music as a young Carrie.
- Speaking of Underwood, she looked fine to me. This was one of her first public appearances since her accident when she messed up her face pretty bad from a fall. Would she look different? Carrie is still beautiful, although i didn't like the song she sang last night, the title song form her upcoming album, "Cry Pretty." She screamed most of it.
- The judges came out Sunday night, proclaiming they were going to be more honest and "harder" during this judging phase. Maybe they have heard some of the backlash that they have been too nice all season. Still, either the performances were flawless last night, or the judges again wimped-out, their assessments were positive.I agree- you can't be negative if there is nothing to be negative about . Hopefully in the second season they will be more honest, ruthless and entertaining like Simon Cowell was.
- Next week the finals are a two-night event. It will be interesting if they chop it down to two contestants after Sunday, setting up the Monday show-down. There will be more drama both nights. Unlike "Dancing With The Stars," where the winning couple fox-trot off into the sunset, other than the normal summer tours, Idol's winner actually is important as, sooner or later, you're gonna hear that voice on the radio. Idol has a summer tour scheduled, with tickets already on sale to see the top 7 sing.
