PHILLIES PHODDER

- Another loss in Miami. Don't look now but the Phillies are 16-13, still in second place behind the Mets and the braves, only 2 out. But Washington is coming up form behind fast, 2 1/2 games behind Philly. The Nationals host the Phillies this weekend.

The Phils lost their 4th game in a row, wasting a solid effort by Zach Eflin. The hitters failed in the clutch again, going 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position.

- Let's face it- Carlos Santana is killing the team. He had a seeing-eye double in the 9th inning last night, otherwise he's not hitting at all. No power. Lots of walks. It's about time he was dropped in the batting order. most of all, he is taking up space. Nick Williams, who shined brightly in the second half last season, is not hitting and not playing because of Santana.  There was no need to sign Santana. Already had a first baseman in Rhys Hoskins. The outfield was set with Herrera, Altherr and Williams. Now players are out of position. The defense is worst in the majors. Hoskins and Crawford at short are especially killing the team in defense. All because GM Klentek is so into analytics he looked at Santana's on-base percentage and inked him to a 3-year, $60 million deal. Awful so far.

- Franco is struggling too. He failed to move a runner on second with no outs in the 9th inning. He left the bases loaded in the 11th. Inconsistent to say the least.

- Injuries are cropping up on the club. Reliever Victor Arano, who has been ane arly staple in the bullpen,  is on the DL with a shoulder strain. Hopefully Pat Neshek is back soon. Jerod Eichoff is needed back to fill another starter's spot. Scott Kingery was hit by a 98 MPH fastball last night on the right arm. His status is day-to-day.

- One more game in Miami tonight, trying not to get swept by the lowly marlins. Onto Washington for three games this weekend, then home to play San Francisco and New York.
