IDOL CHATTER FINALS

- Maybe it was nerves, pressure, stress or the bad originals songs, but Idol was lacking last night. Tonight the winner is crowned in this shortened season ( feels like Hollywood week just ended).  I felt as Katy Perry did- this is the top 3? Disappointing. Even Cade or Ada Vox would've brought much more passion and life to the Finals.

- It wasn't her best night but, in my opinion, Maddie cemented her crown as the new American Idol. She had a solid, if not spectacular night. More so then Maddie having a brilliant night, she just did enough not to blow it, as the other two had off-nights.

I was hoping Maddie would pick either "God Only knows", "Brand New Key' or "Homeward Bound" as her favorite season song, but she went with an original, and she did well, especially up again the awful other original single

Maddie has a silky-smooth voice, is matured beyond her years, appears calm and composed ( although she admits to poor self-confidence) and is sweet and cute. Who needs more?

The only thing that worries me about Maddie is her somewhat "who-cares" attitude, falsely proclaiming  that fame didn't matter to her. Sure it does! Why are you on American Idol if wealth and fame were not desired?

- Caleb looked stiff and awkward on stage again. Someone get the Country Guy a choreographer or a drink to loosen up! Plus his original song was terrible. The song itself and the performance. Caleb strained and struggled to sing it. ( actually i wouldn't buy any of the singles, and thought it was unfair to strap the young contestants with tunes they clearly hate, all because some record executive or company wants to make tons of money from these "singles"). .

- Gabby has a good voice and can belt out a song, but she seems too full of herself now, too programmed, and tries to always sound and look like Carrie Underwood. The best surprise of the night occurred after she sang Journey's "Don't Stop Believing'", when lead singer Steve Perry was introduced in the crowd. That's big because Perry is  somewhat known as a recluse.Perry thought her rendition of his song was the best he had ever heard. I beg to differ. Too glitz and production-like.

- The judges, especially Katy, were more honest last night. Perry sounded like Simon Cowell-ish. Lionel has not said a bad word about anyone all season. Instead, he supports, encourages and prefers to teach. Hopefully this honesty carries over into next season, as to sugarcoat constructive criticism makes more sense.

- The hometown segments were OK, reminding me these singers have lives outside of Idol, loved ones who care, and it was nice to get away from all the glitz.

- The winner tonight will be and should be Maddie. Not even close. I will be shocked and disappointed if Caleb or Gabby win.

- So, as we reach the end, the judges did alright overall.  After getting their feet wet, the judges need to get more honest, and they know it. Not everyone is great. Why kid America? We have ears too, even tough we not be "professional talent evaluators. "

The season ended too soon, as it feels like Hollywood week just ended. ABC needs to stretch out the series more. Interest in the show seemed to build momentum toward the end. I liked the instant voting. Tonight the overnight vote is back, which is fine for the two-night finale I think we are going to see more and more of this Billy Bones guy, as ABC seems pretty high on him..

I didn't get bringing back 4 losers to fill a segment of forgettable original songs. There is a reason why they were voted off in the first place.
