* The Sixers predictably lost at Cleveland last night, 105-98, as Joel Embiid did not play. He will go tonight in New Orleans against the Pelicans. As I wrote previously, until the organization gets over this silly don't play Embiid in back-to-back games, you can't take the 76'ers seriously until the playoffs.
* Giancarlo Stanton going to the Yankees is still vibrating around baseball as the Winter meetings open in Disney World today. Miami traded the slugger to New York, and one is reminded that former Yankee Derek Jeter is now an owner of a the Marlins. It seems only natural he would help out his old team, as now the Baby Bronx Bombers are ready to tear up the American League, sort of like the Mantle-Maris days in the early 60s.
I can see both Stanton and Aaron Judge hitting 50 or more home runs again next summer.I have rockets to the June 27th Yankees-Phillies game at Citizen's Bank Park, and watching batting practice will be a must. I can easily imagine Stanton and Judge launching homers onto Ashburn Alley during batting practice on a warm summer evening.
* I wouldn't be surprised to hear of at least one of the following Phillies being traded this week; Tommy Joseph, Cesar Hernandez or Freddie Galvis. Would the San Francisco Giants have interest in bringing Joseph back to their organization? Is Hernandez headed for Anaheim? Are the rumors true that San Diego has already expressed interest in Galvis?
I see the Phils doing more in deals than in free agency.Next year at this time, with free agents like Manny Machado, possibly Bryce Harper and maybe Clayton Kershaw on the market, i see the Phillies being more active, with money to burn, next December.
* Sunday is here, and in a few hours the Eagles put their 10-2 record on the line in Los Angeles against the 9-3 Rams. Reports are better practices this week in California. It's a big game for both teams. The Birds could solidify their own on the best record in the NFC ( combined with a Minnesota loss in Carolina), before finishing the year with three very winnable games.
Meanwhile, the Rams can tie the Eagles record-wise, and keep their hold on first place in NFC West. But to me, the more important game for LA is next week in Seattle, which is for the division. The Rams have already lost to the Seahawks. A loss in Seattle would doom the Rams to a wild card spot.
This fact may not have an effect on today's game, but an angry Eagles team, who needs the game for a better seeding position in the upcoming playoffs, should come out today, with tons of Eagle fans in attendance, and take it to the Rams early and often.
