* The Eagles extended WR Alshon Jeffery to a four-year contract yesterday. Good move. The Birds needs a true No. 1 receiver. After a slow start, Jeffery has stepped-up and has caught more balls and touchdowns as the season ha progressed.
He gives them a big target down the field and especially in the Red Zone, where Pihlly scores TDs not field goals. He commands respect and opens up the other side of the field for whomever is there, be it Agholor in the slot, Torrey Smith on the outside or Ertz over the middle.
The Eagles' front office know they are in the midst of not only a special season, but the beginning of a long run of playoff appearances and winning football, all led by QB Carson Wentz, who is only 24, but plays like a seasoned vet.
Keeping this core together, including Jeffery, will be a big challenge. Extending players like Graham and now Jeffery, helps in that process.
I look for Jeffery to become even more at ease with Wentz and more involved in the offense for the rest of the season and for years to come.
Jaworski had Carmichael; McNabb had T.O.; now Wentz has Jeffery, for a long time.
Give the front office- especially owner Jeff Lurie and GM Howie Rossman- credit for seeing what they have and what could be and taking the steps to insure good football times in Philadelphia for many years to come.
