THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY- JUNE 1/2

1969 NBA Finals" Russell goes out on top.

50 years ago, Don Nelson's jumper bounced high off the rim and dropped in to give an aging Celtics team a 108-106, NBA Final Game 7 victory. Lakers owner Jack Kent Cooke's premature plans for a celebration including a marching band and balloons falling from the rafters, were spoiled. It was the Celtics' 11th Championship in 13 seasons.
