PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES

Another reliever went down for the Phillies. Siranthony Dominguez left the 8th inning of yesterday's game in San Diego  with a "sore elbow."

A "sore elbow" is something you have for a while. This happened suddenly as Siranthony yelled out after he threw a pitch.

I hope it's not true but I think he tore a ligament or tendon and may need Tommy John surgery, which will put him on the shelf for at least a year. I hope I'm wrong.

With that said, and the Phils need relief pitchers, free agent hold-out Craig Kimbrel signed a three-year deal with the cubs on Wednesday.

I get it that Philadelphia did not want to give him a long-term deal, but Kimbrel is just 32 and should have another good three years left in him. The Phils need a closer ( or any good arm in the bullpen( and I thought they would ink Kimgrel to a deal after June 1st when they no longer had to surrender a draft pick.

At least Kimbrel didn't go to the rival Braves. But what do the Phillies do about the bullpen now?

It was a big win for the club yesterday in San Diego. The comeback win gave the team a 2-4 record on their tough West Coast trip. They took two of three from a good Padres club. They are eight games over .500 again, up bu 1 1/2 games in NL East over Atlanta ( The Braves  lost to the Pirates last night).

Jay Bruce had two more hits, including  his third homer as a Phillie. Jean Segura collected three hits, and Scott  Kingery continues to play well. Hector Neris got five outs for his 11th save.

The Phillies are home and play a weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds. Arizona visits next week before the Phillies hit the road again.

Who is the Phillies All-Star? Several qualify for the honor. Harper( on reputation), Hernandez, Nola, Degura, Realmuto. There is no clear-cut candidate.
