CHIRPING BIRDS-NFL WEEK 1

NFL Week 1 wrap-up...

* I went 13-2 this weekend, including a Last Fan Standing win with Pittsburgh. Jacksonville and Kansas City cost me a perfect week.

* The Chiefs upset New England-on the road- in the NFL opener. KC will be riding high this Sunday in their home opener against our Eagles. But I'd rather play KC after a win- when they might be full of themselves- then an angry, desperate Chiefs team after a loss. The Chiefs are rested, and Andy Reid is always good when he has time to prepare.

* Buffalo got a home win against the dreadful Jets. New York will win a game this season, but when and where? At home against Cleveland? The Jets are tanking and bucking for the overall No. 1 pick in the draft next spring to take an elite quarterback.

* Atlanta survived at Chicago. I think the Falcons, a good, young team, will struggle this season with a tougher schedule and a let-down after blowing the Super Bowl. Thesshould still make the playoffs and be a threat to return to the Super Bowl but I don't think they make it.

* Baltimore rolled over Cincinnati, and now the Ravens come home to play the Browns. Baltimore and Pittsburgh will do their normal thing and battle for supremacy in AFC North all season.Ex-Eagle Jeremy Maclin had a big touchdown catch.

* Speaking of Pittsburgh, they escaped in Cleveland. Is till think they end up in the Super Bowl against Seattle.

* I did pick Detroit to win at home vs Arizona. Matthew Stafford celebrated his new contract extension with a big game. The Lions will play well early, as his their recent history, then fade later. They play Monday night at the Giants. The Cards lost again when playing in the eastern time zone, which bodes well for the Birds when Arizona plays in October.

* Jacksonville upset the Texans in Houston. Are the Jags better or is Houston that bad? I really thought the Texans would play better, especially after the emotion due to the recent floods in Houston due to Hurricane Harvey.

* Oakland played well in Tennessee. They come home this week to play the Jets. Once again in AFC West, Oakland, Denver and Kansas City are 1-0 and will be battling all season.

* The Rams clobbered the awful Colts. Are the Rams that improved? I didn't like Indy this year, and even less so with QB Andrew Luck out with a shoulder problem. LA is better, and we will see if Jared Goff comes into his own this year. With Arizona and San Francisco in the NFC West, Los Angeles may contend with Seattle for a while.

* Green Bay took out Seattle at home. The Packers look strong, but I'm still going with the Seahawks to make the Super Bowl. But Green Bay's victory on Sunday may go a  long way into determining a tie-breaker.

* Carolina rolled over the 49'ers. Cam Newton is back. The Panthers are only a few years removed from the Super Bowl , and with an easier schedule, look for the Panthers to bounce back this season.

* Dallas beat the Giants, after losing to the G-men twice last year. The Cowboys better stack up the wins before Zeke Elliot gets suspended for six games. Meanwhile, New York's offensive looks awful without Beckham Jr.

* Minnesota and Sam Bradford had no problem with the Saints on Monday night. The Eagles will regret not moving up in the second round and taking RB Delvin Cook. He looks like a star in the making.

* Denver squeezed by the Chargers in the late game last night. The Bronco defense will keep them in the hunt in AFC West.
