Memories of the late, great Kobe Bryant..
* Being a Sixers fan, hated Kobe's talent, especially when he cut the heart out of the 76ers, feared him on the basketball court, yet grew to admire and appreciate his greatness. He truly was one of the greatest of all time.
* It was Fate that it was foggy yesterday morning in Los Angeles, Fate that Kobe got on that helicopter with his 13-year-old daughter and 7 other souls. They were all destined to tragically meet their Fate...
* Few people in the world are recognized only by a single name. Amazing to hear all the tributes from around the world. Basketball is a universal sport. People in China, Europe, Russia..all know Kobe. The world mourns.
* The reason we hated Kobe was because we felt he was born to be a Sixer. His father was a Sixer. But Kobe grew up idolizing the Lakers. How bad does Charlotte feel, drafting Kobe then trading him away to the Lakers?
* Just like when JFK died, the Challenger disaster, John Lennon's murder, and 9/11, I'll always remember where I was when I heard the news of Kobe's death.It's a moment that will live forever. And so will he, frozen in time at age 41,never growing old. So be it for his daughter Gigi, who was robbed of a lifetime. So sad.
* Kobe had problems in his life, as we all do. He wasn't a saint, and Bob Costas pointed that out last night on CNN. Sometimes when people die, especially so suddenly, they tend to be canonized by the media. Costas, rightly or wrongly, mentioned Kobe's faults, especially the alleged rape care about 15 years ago. Maybe Costas shouldn't have touched that situation on the day Bryant died, but it is part of his life.
* Give Kobe credit for turning his life around. He became a devoted dad to his four daughters, and a coach for Gigi's girl's basketball team. They were traveling to one of his games when the crash happened.
* From all accounts, it wasn't helicopter failure. It was human failure that caused the accident. Apparently it was extremely foggy around LA yesterday morning.for some reason the copter was allowed to take-off and fly ( maybe at Bryant's insistence?) and the pilot became disoriented and literally flew into the hillside.
* RIP Black Mamba
