NFL PREVIEW- WEEK 9
Looking at Week 9 of the NFL season..
49ers over Raiders-
Oakland is a sorry franchise, falling to 1-7 and getting embarrassed by their Bay area rival. Coach Jon Gruden is stealing money, as he trades away good players for draft picks.
Bears at Bills-
Chicago is still in the hunt in NFC North while Buffalo struggles. Somehow I think the Bills play a good game this week.
Chiefs at Browns-
KC tries to go 8-1 as they play in Cleveland, who fired their coach this week. I like the Chiefs minus 8 points, even though Cleveland is at home and has played better this season.
Jets at Dolphins-
The loser will be buried in AFC East, whereas the winner will have wild card hopes.
Lions at Vikings-
Minnesota tries to stay on top in NFC North while Detroit plays it's first game without Golden Tate.
Falcons at Redskins-
Atlanta needs to win to stay alive with any playoff dreams, while Washington at 5-2 attempt to go two games ahead of the Eagles. I like Atlanta in an upset.
Buccaneers at Panthers-
Tampa Bay is in chaos regarding their quarterbacks. Carolina hopes to stay with the Saints in NFC South. The Panthers keep rolling.
Steelers at Ravens-
The big rivalry in AFC North. Pittsburgh has revenge on their side. If Baltimore has any playoff hopes they need to beat the Steelers again.
Texans over Broncos-
Houston goes for six in a row while Denver is always tough at home.
Chargers at Seahawks-
Seattle is making a playoff push and are always hard to beat at home. The Chargers need to stay with Kansas City. I'm taking the Seahawks.
Rams at Saints-
The Game of the Week l. LA tries to remain undefeated against Drew Brees and a home Saints squad.
Packers at Patriots-
Rodegrs vs Brady. The Pack gave it a valiant effort last week against the Rams. New England needs to keep winning to get home field advantage again in the playoffs.
Titans at Cowboys-
Tennessee is battling to stay alive in AFC South, while Dallas, with Amari Cooper at wide receiver, try to even their record at 4-4.
My NFL picks this week ( Last week 3-2. Season total- 11-5)
Vikings -5
Falcons plus 1,5
Seahawks - 1

PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, SIXERS, FLYERS,EAGLES
- Phillies GM Matt Klentak was on WIP Sports Radio yesterday morning. It was the same old BS from clueless Klentak, as he appeared just before free agency begins.
Unless he is sandbagging, Klentak hinted that Rhys Hoskins will stay in left field and Carlos Santana, whom Klentak "loves" and called "great", will play first base again. Yet, Klentak states the defense must get better.
Sounds like the organization is souring on Manny Machado, thanks to his recent commends about not hustling all the time. If that is true the front office better sign Bryce Harper. Anything less would be a big disappointment.
-The Sixers are undefeated at home, beating the clippers by nine points on Thursday night. Joel Embiid had 41 point and 13 rebounds, totally dominating the contest. They play at home again Saturday afternoon vs Detroit.
- The Flyers won a second straight game on their four-game road trip, beating the Kings 5-2. Five different Flyers scored goals, and goalie Brian Elliot had a solid game.
- The Eagles are off this week, resting from their London trip and preparing for Dallas next Sunday night. Can't wait to see Golden Tate in midnight green. Hopefully Darren Sproles returns. If the Cowboys beat the Titans on Monday night, they invade the Linc at 4-4 , which sets up a big NFC East show-down.

"A good trainer can't make a bad horse good. But a bad trainer can make a good horse bad- "Sunny" Jim Fitzsimmons
"Sunny" Jim Fitzsimmons is the only trainer to work with two Triple Crown winners. He did it with the sire/son combination of Gallant Fox ( 1930) and Omaha ( 1935). Horse racing historians have also noted that "Sunny' Jim was even a better man than he was a horse trainer.

IN THE NEWS- LABOR DEPARTMENT LOOKS TO INCENTIVIZE DISABILITY HIRING
New from Disability Scoop..
Federal contractors may soon get one more reason to prioritize hiring workers with disabilities.
The U.S. Department of Labor is looking to incentivize inclusive hiring practices among employers who do business with the government through a so-called Excellence in Disability Inclusion award.
Federal contractors that "foster employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities" could be exempt from two years worth of compliance evaluations under the Labor Department plan put forward this month.
In order to qualify for the award, contractors mush have an affirmative action plan or an initiative to promote opportunities for people with disabilities, have no outstanding compliance issues and meet a series of other requirements.
"The Excellence in Disability Inclusion award seeks to highlight successful practices and strategies that have expanded and improved the recruitment, hiring, retention and promotion opportunities of individuals with disabilities," reads the notice outlining the plan to issue the new award, which would be administered by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs in conjunction with the Office of Disability Employment Policy.
"By highlighting the exemplary practices of successful contractor establishments, other covered federal contractors should be encouraged to adopt these or similar practices to support their compliance with mandatory obligations under Section 503," the notice states.
The effort is the Labor Department's latest to encourage contractors to improve their track records on disability employment. Already, the agency requires most federal contractors to aim for enduring that at least 7 percent of their workforce is comprised of people with disabilities.
The Labor Department's plan for the new award is up for public comment through Dec. 4.

PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- EAGLES, BASEBALL NEWS, SIXERS, FLYERS
- Newly-acquired WR Golden Tate was introduced to the Philly media yesterday afternoon, and he came across as thoughtful, sincere and excited to play for the Eagles. Tate is 30 and hopefully will sign beyond this season. For now he gives Carson Wentz another weapon on offense. He may not have the breakaway, blazing speed like DeSean Jackson, speed that can stretch a defense, but Tate catches the football and leads the league in yards made after the catch, He is elusive and make defenders miss. Tate is great in the red zone as well. He's terrific on screens, which Wentz should use extensively when the pass rush gets too much,
He makes the Birds better and sends a message that the team isn't giving up on the season. Meanwhile the Lions, only a game out of first place in NFC North, are telling Detroit fans that a long-awaited Super Bowl appearance won't happen this year.
There's been a recent baby boom in local hospitals. Almost 9 months ago the Eagles won the Super Bowl. Coincidence? Or do we now know how some people celebrated after the big game?
- Legendary slugger Willie McCovey died yesterday. "Stretch" was a long and lanky first baseman for the San Francisco Giants, playing 19 of his 22 major league seasons in Candlestick Park. Although McCovey lived in the shadow of the great Willie Mays, he hit 510 home runs and made it to the Hall of Fame.
The Giants has a great team in the 60s, with McCovey, Mays, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry and Jim Ray Hart, among others. But the Dodgers, with Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale, seemed to have their number out west. I guess great pitching does beat great hitting most of the time.
McCovey is probably best known to today's generation of fans as the guy who "McCovey Cove" is named after, that space of blue water outside the right field fence in San Francisco where titanic homers make a splash-down. McCovey often hit long homers to right field in Candlestick, especially back in the day when it wasn't as easy to hit homers.
RIP Willie...
- Phillies GM Matt Klentak is on WIP Sports Radio soon. I'm sure he won't say much. He never does. It will be interesting to see what the club does regarding free agency. Will they still go after Machado, despite his recent statements about not hustling? Or will Harper be their target, along with pitching help? Or neither?
The Phils are favorites to get someone this off-season, with their needs and all the cash they have hoarded over the years. Looks like Machado has played his last game in Dodger blue from his recent comments. Also appears that the Yankees, in need of a shortstop, at least until June, are backing away from Machado. So, the Phillies may have clear sailing for Machado- but do they really want him? And will the fans welcome him to town, knowing he has already stated that he won't hustle all the time?
- The Sixers are home tonight, where they are 4-0, against the clippers, while the flyers continue their four-game road trip with a contest in Los Angeles vs the Kings.

Seabiscuit vs. War Admiral
1938 Match Race of Century
"So they struggled, matching stride for stride, to the top of the stretch. With the advantage of the rail, Seabiscuit began to assume the the offensive again. When they were at the last furlong pole, it was evident that the race was over. Both jockeys put up their whips and Seabiscuit, going strongly, the Admiral a very tired colt, the bay won by three open lengths."
- John Hervey
80 years ago today, the Match Race of the Century was run. The time of the Pimlico Special was 1:56 3/5, breaking the Pimlico track record. Underdog and fan favorite Seabiscuit paid $6.40 to his backers.
