The Beatles are amazing. It is 47 years since the iconic band broke up yet Beatlemania reigns. The reissue of Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band sits on top of this week's Billboard album charts. The box set is awesome, the album restored by Giles Martin, George Martin's ( The Beatles original producer) son.
The Beatles are my favorite group. I appreciate their music more as I grow older. They were like a brilliant shooting star flashing across the sky in the 60s, gone too soon. Yet their legacy lives on and will forever. They not only changed music, but had a powerful influence on fashion, hairstyles, our entire culture.
Everyone can name the four Beatles. Their music was fun and smart. On screen or on stage, you couldn't take your eyes off them. They were a perfect storm, arriving in America shortly after Kennedy was shot. The sad country needed a lift, and The Beatles raised the spirit of Americans. Who would've thought, not even The Beatles themselves, their popularity would live on so long?
Paul and Ringo are the only two surviving Beatles. Both are working on new albums and sell out on the road. Music pretty much sucks these days. The chance to see a pair of living legends and hear music like it was meant to be is a must-see.

My earliest memory of The Beatles wasn't the Ed Sullivan Show. I remember listening to the radio when the Beatles were flying across the Atlantic, heading for New York City. The media was so wound up, the DJ was monitoring the band's whereabouts over the ocean. "They're only two hours away!", like radar tracks Santa on Christmas Eve.
When the landed, I watched the news with all the highlights. I wasn't a real Beatles fan back in 1964, but knew their music s=as every kid did. The group was though of as a novelty, a fad, something that would fade away. The music, the long hair, the hysteria would all be gone in time. Thing is, it never did fade away. it only got stronger.

Favorite Beatles Book-
"The Love You Make" by Peter Brown.
I saw Paul McCartney last summer in Philadelphia. Great show. First time I saw Paul live. The timeless music brought back so many memories. What stuck me was the crowd. It was a sell-out, approximately 45,000 fans. There were Beatle fans around my age; middle-aged music fans; and younger fans- high school age, college and even pre-teenagers.
Steven Van Zant, the guitarist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, recently was interviewed in Rolling Stone magazine, and stated that he thought rock n' roll might be dead. But judging from the crowd at Paul's concert, rock n' roll is very much alive. The Beatles music melts into generations, like an old familiar friend, tunes to hum along with in the shower or car, happy songs to rock out with and thoughtful, lovely songs to sigh or cry with.
Even the youngest kids at the show knew the words and sang along. Good music will never fade away. The next generation will carry the torch into the future, long after Paul, Ringo, you and me are gone. 200 years ago, like Beethoven, Beatles music will still be around.
