PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, BASEBALL PLAYOFFS PICKS, EAGLES

- Still waiting for the Phillies to make a decision on the futures of Gabe Kapler, Matt Klentek, and Andy MacPhail. Hall of Fame Baseball writer Jayson Stark thinks a decision won't be made until next week. Why? Because he thinks Owner John Middleton may want to clean house and is quietly contacting candidates for each position before announcing his decision.

I hope so. I would hate for Middleton to Take Klentek's word and bring everyone back. This current front office and manager are failures. Middleton needs to use common sense and fire the entire lot of them.

As much as I want a resolution Middleton can take his time, as long as he listens to the fans and does the right thing.

Middleton may be waiting for Tampa Bay to get out of the playoffs. Why? Because the Rays' excellent, young GM is a Philly guy who came in 2nd when they hired Klentek 3 years ago. He may have to wait a while because the Rays won the wild card game last night vs Oakland. Tampa Bay will be playing powerful Houston next.

Here are my Baseball Playoffs Picks-

American League

 Rays vs Astros

Tampa Bay has a fascinating club. They are very low on the overall payroll list yet have a team in the playoffs. The Rays have competed the right way by having a solid farm system. Every year they seem to keep the pipeline going  from their minor leagues. Considering they play in one of the worst stadiums in baseball and get limited fan support, Tampa has done well to stay competitive in AL East.

Houston is as solid a team as there is. Their pitching staff consists of two 300-strikeout hurlers- Justin Verlander and Garrit Cole. They are the best  hitting team in the majors and have playoff experience.

As much as I admire scrappy Tampa Bay I got to like Houston is 3 games.

Twins vs Yankees

Minnesota and New York clubbed the most home runs in a record home run year in Baseball. This should be a fun series to watch because of both offenses. The Yanks have home field advantage and the experience but something tells me Minnesota will win the series.

Twins over Yankees in 4 games.

National League

Cardinals vs Braves

Another fun series. Cards held off the Brewers and Cubs in NL Central. St. Louis always seems to be in the playoff hunt. They have firepower in Ozuna and Goldschmidt. The Braves never seem to close the deal but this season is different. The first 4 hitters in their lineup- Acuna Jr, Albies, Freeman and Donaldson- are fearsome. I don't like their pitching. But there's a reason wht they ran away with NL East.Dallas Keuchal pitches tonight. I hope he does well, as the Phillies passed on his services.

In a tight series, the Cardinals edge Atlanta in 5 games.

Nationals vs Dodgers

Los Angeles was the best team in the National League. Washington is hot and on a run. The  trio of Scherzer, Strasberg and Corbin is as good as any staff. It will take a lot to upset the Dodgers and their home field advantage. LA wins in 5 tough games.

So, I have Minnesota vs Houston in the AL Championship Series, and St. Louis vs Los Angeles in the NL Championship Series.

The Eagles are a big 14 point favorite vs the Jets this Sunday. Losing to New York won't happen. The Birds don't want to waste thei amazing victory over green Bay, only to blow another home game, this time to woeful New York. It's time for the Eagles to protect their home field by blowing out the Jets.  Going to 3-2 before facing Minnesota and Dallas on the road is huge. A win over NY would give the Eagles some momentum going on the road. An upset Jet win would devastate Philly

Eagles win big, 43-13
